Sustainability is a key value at Solving, where products are built to last
For Solving, a company that designs and manufactures heavy load handling systems, sustainability was a way of working long before the term became ubiquitous.
“Sustainability is one of our three company values, and it is broadly defined into four categories: economic, technical, environmental and social sustainability. Sustainability is at the core of our business model. It ensures that our solutions are competitive and profitable, and it enables us to remain a stable employer in our local community”, Deputy MD Malin Helala describes the economic dimension of Solving’s sustainability.
The durable Solving Movers promote sustainable values by design. As they are battery-powered, they do not pollute and, being custom-made, only the components required for a particular Mover are procured – no more, no less, no excess.
“Our high-quality Movers are built to last in tough industrial environments and some are still in use after 30 years. During that time, we can upgrade both their software and hardware, which can extend the lifetime of a mover by a decade”, says Marketing Manager Ullamay Borgmästars, explaining the technical aspects of Solving’s sustainability.
Using the 5S methodology (sort, set in order, shine, standardise and sustain), Solving has focused on recycling and reducing waste for over 20 years. To further increase its environmental sustainability, the next step for the company is to become ISO 14001 certified. The keywords for this ongoing process are reduce, reuse and recycle– as well as lowering company emissions.
For Solving, social responsibility means care for the wellbeing of its own, as well as its customers’, personnel. Solving’s products strengthen occupational safety and help in removing monotonous routine tasks. Here, ergonomics and customisation are highly prioritised. Within the company, cooperation on improving working conditions, health and safety involves all personnel groups.“Our people are the heart of our company.
