WE Tech Solutions is transforming the global shipping industry
As the shipping industry has set sail for a future of carbon neutrality, WE Tech Solutions – a leading provider of energy efficient hybrid solutions for the global shipping industry – has faced exponential growth. In just 13 years, Vaasa-based WE Tech has become a forerunner in its field.
“By buying products from carefully selected subcontractors and guiding them in the manufacturing process, we are always able to build the most energy efficient, tailored solutions and offer our customers the best available technology”, states Managing Director Mårten Storbacka.
WE Tech’s solutions from electrical power generation and distribution systems to energy storage and shore power solutions are utilised in merchant ships around the world. One of them is Wasaline’s Aurora Botnia, the world’s most energy efficient ship that uses mainly liquefied natural gas (LNG) as its fuel.
“We delivered Aurora Botnia a large hybridisation package including, for example, electrical design as well as power distribution and hybrid propulsion systems.”
According to Storbacka, as the world keeps moving away from oil to clean energy sources, LNG will play a crucial role in the transition for the next 50 years. And as the number of LNG tankers keeps increasing, so does the demand for WE Tech’s solutions.
“More and more modern LNG tankers feature power distribution systems developed and implemented by us.”
In the EY’s prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year competition’s Finnish national final in 2021, Storbacka received an award in the responsibility category.
“It is our responsibility to ensure sustainable shipping since we can piece together the most sustainable products on the market and create software control systems around them. The work we do not only reduces our customers’ environmental footprint and their operational costs, but also supports the worldwide logistics chain in achieving the decarbonisation target.”
