Kongsberg Maritime (KM) is a leading global marine technology company providing innovative and reliable solutions for all marine industry sectors including merchant, offshore, cruise, subsea, and naval. It is part of the Norwegian technology group KONGSBERG.

KM operates in 32 countries – including Finland, where the company has locations in Kokkola, Rauma, and Turku, all specialising in different maritime fields.

“In Kokkola, we manufacture waterjet propulsion systems in our waterjet product centre. In 2022, the centre was extended, and it now has an additional 650 square metres of space to support the developing business operations. This was the second time in recent years when a significant investment was made in the product centre to adapt to the growing global market”, says Ville Rimpilä, Kongsberg Maritime Finland’s Managing Director.

KM’s largest facility in Finland is located in Rauma. The site consists of three business units: Thruster Systems, Deck Machinery and Motion Control as well as Global Customer Support.

”In addition to investing in Kongsberg Maritime, the KONGSBERG Group is a large shareholder in Patria through its subsidiary Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. Our Group has a strong foothold in Finland”, states Ville Rimpilä.

“An extensive site transformation program was completed in 2018. As a result, the Rauma factory is now a state-of-the-art assembly factory fulfilling current and future needs for our thruster system products manufactured in Finland. This increased our capacity to support our customers globally. By the end of 2022, we had delivered over 10,000 thrusters from Rauma.”

KM Finland’s office in Turku is home to the Remote Operation Solutions department. It is heavily involved in the development of remote and autonomous solutions for the maritime industry.

“The department’s main responsibility is the development and productisation of remote operation centres for vessel operations. The first commercial projects have already been delivered.”

Massterly – KONGSBERG and the maritime group Wilhelmsen’s joint venture – is among the first customers to use KM’s remote operation centre technology.
