The energy sector is facing a major transition as the fight against climate change continues. This means increased use of fossil-free fuels, widespread electrification, and improved energy efficiency. As a provider of electrification and automation services, VEO participates in the transition by helping its clients shift away from fossil fuels and adapt to the changing world.

“Our clients are investing heavily in improving their processes from heat and carbon capture to energy storage and the utilisation of alternative fuel technologies, such as hydrogen. In 2022, we received more orders than ever before”, says CEO Timo Ala-Heikkilä.

95 percent of VEO’s projects are linked to renewable energy solutions or improving energy efficiency. In recent years, the company has, for example, connected 5,000 megawatts of wind power to the national grid and fully electrified several short distance ferries. In addition, VEO has delivered electrification and automation solutions to 50 bioenergy plants in 15 countries and several hydropower plants in the Nordics.

Timo Ala-Heikkilä, CEO of VEO.
“Scaling the business up is one of our biggest challenges. In the future, the importance of close win-win partnerships grows even more”, says Timo Ala-Heikkilä.

“We help our clients replace burning with heat pumps in heat production. VEO also specialises in recovering excess heat that different facilities, such as data centres, produce and transferring it to the national grid.”

VEO is continuously searching for new ways to contribute to the common goal of carbon neutrality.

“In the future, we need more hydropower to support wind and solar power, but old hydropower plants do not meet the modern requirements. This is why we have created a new innovation that saves turbines from mechanical wear when their use is regulated by demand. This allows us to reconnect these plants to the grid”, Ala-Heikkilä states.

Preparing for the future also means development of expertise.

“As the demand for our services increases, we need new employees who have experience in industry, wind power, and marine projects as well as in electrification and automation of hydropower. To ensure this, we are investing in recruitments, further cooperation with educational institutions, training, and the development of our VEO Academy concept.”
