For well over a century, Hitachi Energy has contributed to electrifying the world with its cutting-edge technologies. Today, the multinational company is a global technology leader with a purpose of advancing a sustainable energy future for all. To advance the energy transition, Hitachi Energy is investing almost nine billion euros globally in new production facilities and technologies.

One of the large investments is a 170-million-euro production and technology centre Hitachi Energy Park that will be built in Korsholm, Ostrobothnia and inaugurated in 2027.

“The centre is going to have modern office spaces and a state-of-the-art transformer factory. It will double our transformer production and testing capacity in the Vaasa region as well as help us meet the growing demand driven by the energy transition”, says Matti Vaattovaara, Managing Director at Hitachi Energy Finland.

In Finland, Hitachi Energy develops and manufactures many key technologies for the clean energy transition. The company’s solutions secure Finland’s electricity supply by enabling a flexible, reliable, and weather-proof transmission and distribution grid.

“For instance, our technologies are needed in securing electric rail transport in Finland, ensuring electricity supply for industry as well as making wind, solar, and hydro power available for consumption.”

In Finland alone, well over 50 percent of wind power flows to consumption through transformers and substations provided by Hitachi Energy.

“We were needed when Finland was electrified and we are needed now – perhaps more than ever – as we are advancing a sustainable energy system and working towards a carbon-neutral future”, states Vaattovaara.

The new centre is a big milestone for Hitachi Energy and the whole Vaasa region. There, the company has over 500 employees, and the future facilities will create an additional 200 jobs. More personnel are needed in different departments from product development to production.

“Making such high-tech products and solutions as we do – transformers, grid connections, digital and automation systems – requires top-level engineering, production, and development know-how. For the first time ever, all our employees in the region will be under the same roof, facilitating cooperation and innovation.”
