Energy is becoming increasingly important as the world rapidly becomes more and more reliant on electricity. This is what Technology Centre Merinova is at the forefront of and creating solutions for with its partners. The company provides professional services and project development to companies in the energy sector. The owners behind Merinova are important players in Finnish society: the companies belonging to the Vaasa energy cluster and the region’s cities, municipalities, universities and other educational establishments.

Merinova’s core competences are energy technology and the world of projects. It brings the best experts from various organisations to the same round table to create solutions for these sectors. Its project work has now been awarded the highest ECEI Gold Label certification, reflecting first-class and sophisticated management of the EnergyVaasa cluster, which is managed by Merinova and VASEK and for which the certificate was awarded.

“The energy cluster’s Gold Label certificate is the first of its kind in Finland. It shows the world that we are pioneers in the field and an expert project partner”, says Mika Konu, Managing Director of Merinova.

Merinova coordinates the implementation of the Ecosystem Agreement for innovation activities between the City of Vaasa and the Finnish Government. The agreement will strengthen the region’s strategic competences and leadership in implementing a sustainable energy system. Right now, Merinova is involved in several pioneering energy projects aimed at creating system-level export products. Merinova manages the EnergySAMPO ecosystem partnership, which aims to share top know-how and develop innovative system solutions.

For example, energy storage, hydrogen, and synthetic fuels are hot topics in the industry, and part of Merinova’s everyday work.

“We do a lot of important proactive work within the projects to identify, for example, the skills needed for new technologies”, explains Program Director Sabina Storbacka.

Merinova acts as a project partner in several international projects. One of them is the Alliance for Batteries Technology, Training and Skills (ALBATTS), a European project that aims to contribute to green energy and the electrification of transport in Europe by designing a blueprint for competences and training schemes of the future, in the battery and electromobility sector. Another one is the GREENOVET project that contributes to the development of top know-how in green innovation in vocational education and training across Europe.
