Hitachi Energy can truly be said to know the history of electricity, or even to be writing it. With 140 years of experience, the company has witnessed the incredible evolution of the industry and the market. Today, in the 2020s, the world is electrifying at an accelerating pace, and energy production is quickly becoming ever cleaner. As a global technology leader and employer of nearly 400,000 people, Hitachi Group is one of the key players in the energy revolution.

“Investing in and implementing the energy transition will require extensive global resources. At Hitachi, we have the muscles required for the transition and are able to build advanced new technological solutions and innovations. Our capacity allows us to grow with the market”, says Matti Vaattovaara, Managing Director of Hitachi Energy Finland.

Globally, the volume of clean electrical energy produced is growing enormously. Still today, only between 20% to 25% of primary energy is electricity, the rest is from fossil-fuel combustion. In the coming decades, this clean electricity share will rise to over 50%. In addition to the growth in green electricity generation, we are seeing the electrification of end consumption, industry and transport. This chain requires a huge amount of new digitalisation, as well as new ways of storing electricity and controlling its use. Hitachi Energy provides solutions, software and components from energy production to electricity transmission, distribution and consumption. This is where the company’s business and sustainable society go hand in hand.

“Our long-term strategy is to create social innovations and solutions to meet environmental needs, not forgetting accountable governance and finances. For us, good business comes from building a sustainable society”, says Vaattovaara.

In Vaattovaara’s view, Hitachi’s operating culture can be summed up in its human values, which is where the company’s Finnish and Japanese roots meet. These values are harmony, sincerity and a pioneering spirit. Although a global technology giant, the company operates in a very human-centred business environment. Its skilled professionals listen to the customer, respect their needs and develop the best solutions to meet these needs, with genuine caring for customers and colleagues. With major societal challenges on the table, Hitachi is not resting on its laurels. Indeed, it seems that new and perhaps some of the most interesting chapters in the history of electricity are being written right now.

“Even when there are unexpected crises along the way, we learn from them and work hard to develop solutions for them too. At Hitachi Energy, we want to be the one to take society forward.”
