For high-end calibration company Beamex, a societal move towards sustainability is not only great news – it is great business. Complex sustainable processes require accurate measurements, and Beamex has the calibration know-how to be a sustainability enabler. Accurate measurements, reliable data and traceability is what this technology leader knows best.

“Calibration is needed at every step of an industrial process. Thanks to calibration, you can trust that the water you drink is pure and that the emissions of a nearby factory are within limits. What and how much is calibrated in a company historically depended on external regulation – this varies from country to country – but nowadays, also the internal pressure to become more sustainable creates an added need for measurements and calibrations. This pressure comes from owners, customers and society in large”, explains Jan-Henrik Svensson, CEO of Beamex.

Beamex offers its customers a calibration ecosystem that consists of both hardware, software, services and globally unique calibration competence. Through these products and services, the company improves its customers’ productivity, efficiency, safety and compliance. Beamex has over 14 000 customers in the global process industry. The customer base is wide, ranging from companies within food and beverage to energy production.

“Regardless of what our customers produce, we help them to be better at it. For instance, by calibrating pressure, temperature and electricity measurements, both coal power plants and wind farms can become more efficient, which ultimately has a sustainable impact on our world”, says Svensson.

The more complex a process is, the more it is measured and needs calibration. The digitalisation taking place in the global process industry increases the need for calibration data.

Tina Ademola and Jan-Henrik Svensson see that calibration can enable a more sustainable, safer and less uncertain world.

In addition to being a sustainability enabler, Beamex’ own products and processes have been developed with sustainability in mind. The products are module-based, so customers only buy what they need and upgrade over time. This creates long lifecycles for products that can be used for a decade or longer – much longer than other electronics.

Beamex is certified to ISO14001 and has been awarded the EcoVadis gold rating for corporate social responsibility and supplier sustainability. The EcoVadis rating evaluates a company’s environmental impact, but also labour, human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. At Beamex, social sustainability is equally important to environmental, and it seems it is also something it can help its customers develop in their companies:

“A customer told us that one of the reasons they chose our software was that it lowers its employees’ stress levels. By digitalising their processes and removing manual documentation, our product increased their wellbeing at work. What wonderful feedback for us to hear!”, says Tina Ademola, HR Director at Beamex.

Being a successful company, with growing personnel needs, Beamex is heavily investing also in its own employees’ wellbeing. Currently the company is developing a new office concept to better suit post-pandemic hybrid work models. Everyone at Beamex, even the production personnel, can influence their work hours. In a company that values accurate data, it makes sense that Beamex also measures this aspect of social sustainability:

“We measure much of what we do within company HR, and work to improve the things that our employees find important. Work-life balance is one of our top priorities, and in this we support our people in every way that we can: by being flexible, offering hybrid work options and giving opportunities to take responsibility and decide how to set up one’s own work”, explains Ademola.

Beamex is a third-generation family-owned company, which every move is long-term. The company aims to be an active part in its local community and have a positive impact globally.

“When I became the CEO here, the chairman of the board told me that a fiscal quarter for the owners is 25 years. We and our owners are proud tax payers and strive to make a change through big and small actions. This way of thinking can be seen throughout our company”, says Svensson.
