Chydenius closely collaborates with society and industry
NEW TECHNOLOGIES and digitalisation rapidly transform the way we work, requiring us to update our skills or even to change our professions. Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius offers university education to working professionals through new models for continuous learning.
“We help both individuals and society to develop and renew themselves. Today, havingone degree might not be enough, but skills can be learned without completing another full degree. Chydenius offers education modules, which are attractive, compact and flexible”, says Anne Jokela, vice director of Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius.
KOKKOLA UNIVERSITY CONSORTIUM Chydenius is a joint institution of higher education underthe universities in Jyväskylä, Oulu and Vaasa. In addition to continuous learning, the consortium focuses on multidisciplinary research and the regeneration of business and industry. Collaboration is strong with companies and society at large and can be seen in the many research partnerships carried out.
“We take part in large international research projects but also do specific commissioned studies for companies. Our research in battery chemistry, for instance, is internationally very competitive and is done in close collaboration with a wide set of industry partners”, says Jokela.
MUCH OF CHYDENIUS’ RESEARCH contributes to low carbon solutions and energy-efficient circular economies. Battery chemistry is one area of interest, along with biomass and carbon research, as well as environmental monitoring and sensor networks. At Chydenius, sustainability is also viewed from a social scientific perspective:
“We study our society’s ecosocial transition. Ecological, social and economic sustainability requires solutions on all levels in society: in politics, industry, business and for individual consumers. Through this research and our other researchareas we work towards turning the tide on climate change”, states Jokela.
