The key to the success of Boliden Kokkola’s zinc plant is its team of skilled and committed employees.

“Quality starts with the competence of an individual worker,” says Jarmo Herronen, General Manager at Boliden Kokkola.

The quality of the company’s overall operations starts from the clear duties assigned to each employee and from each employee knowing the customer’s needs. This culminates in excellent quality for the customer.

“Ostrobothnia has a long tradition of high-quality work, but competition is getting tougher. We have to be even better. But quality is still something we can be proud of,” says Herronen.

With its production capacity of 315,000 tonnes, Boliden Kokkola is the second largest zinc producer in Europe. Up to 85% of its production is exported to North and Central Europe.

The zinc produced in Kokkola mainly ends up in the construction and automotive industries.

High-quality zinc protects steel from corrosion. No defects in quality are allowed in this process.

Boliden is the largest employer in Kokkola. Its employees are loyal, often working for the company for several decades. For Boliden Kokkola, social responsibility means methodical staff policies that involve anticipating changes over a span of several years.

“Safety is our number one priority. It means recognising risks and managing them,” says Halonen.

“We also require our subcontractors to observe this principle,” Herronen says.
