A vision of supporting the local community to develop and sustain an attractive place to be, both for industry and consumers, bears great importance to the electric utility company Katternö Group. Reliable delivery of electricity is one of the most important aspects obtained from this philosophy.
“Especially for the industry, it is important to have a trustworthy, interruption-free supply of energy. For instance, in order to improve our reliability as a supplier, we are currently expanding and modernising our 110 kV transmission network,” CEO Stefan Storholm explains.
During recent years, Katternö Group has also made large investments into upgrading the distribution grid. There is a constantly ongoing replacement of especially 20 kV overhead lines with underground cables, in order to make the distribution network weatherproof.
To the consumer, confidence in the knowledge that the source of their energy is renewable and environmentally friendly directly translates into trust in their supplier. Thus, sustainable and environmentally sound energy production is a core value for Katternö Group. Through recent years the group has invested heavily in wind power and is today one of the leading utility companies in this sector.
“As mentioned earlier, it is our responsibility to ensure a continuous supply of energy, no matter the circumstances. That is why we invest in sustainable production, which also includes nuclear and solar energy. By making these investments we reduce our own environmental footprint.”
The Kyoto Protocol, which regulates the global emission of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, is an important guiding star at Katternö Group.
“If you want to reduce your CO2 emissions, there are not that many alternatives. We believe in sustainability, which is why we in 2001 invested in the construction of Alholmens Kraft in Jakobstad, currently the world’s largest biofuel CHP power station. This coincides with our philosophy of giving back to the community. By investing in your own region you generate job opportunities and trust.”
The people at Katternö Group are die-hard believers in continual industrial development in Finland and Ostrobothnia.
“We believe in our local community, and that is why we are continually investing in our fibre optical communications network. It is the most solid and reliable communications technology available today, and as such adds reliability to the systems monitoring and controlling the power gird. A flourishing society requires a functioning and viable industry, which in turn relies upon a dependable source of energy. Our mission is to make it as reliable as possible.”
