Backman-Trummer Group specialises in offering its customers comprehensive tailored logistics solutions. An increasing number of companies have realised that acquiring the different parts of the transport chain from many different places is not necessarily the most sensible option in terms of overall cost.
“If the transport chain is split into many parts, this easily results in sub-optimisation and inefficiency. We take responsibility for the entire chain, ensuring that both goods and information reach their destination,” says Backman-Trummer’s CEO, Hannu Uusi-Pohjola.
Comprehensive solutions already account for half of the company’s turnover, and the 10% annual growth in recent years is almost entirely explained by growth in comprehensive solutions.
Uusi-Pohjola notes that Backman-Trummer Group is extraordinarily well positioned to provide its customers with complete logistics solutions.
“Although we are a relatively large player, we are, however, agile compared with large international companies.”
A tailored transport chain often includes a combination of many different parts, such as rail, road, sea and air transports. Between the transports themselves, goods are unloaded, transferred, stored and reloaded. A company providing comprehensive solutions therefore has to invest in both equipment and storage facilities. This is no problem for Backman-Trummer Group, which is part of the financially sound KWH Group. Ultimately, efficient comprehensive transports depend on expert personnel.
“To be able to build the optimum transport solution for each customer requires a lot of knowledge and expertise from our employees,” says Uusi-Pohjola.
Backman-Trummer Group’s operations are divided into three different parts: Freight Forwarding focuses on global transports; the Port & Sea unit operates ports on the west coast; and the Industrial Service unit handles the internal logistics of large factories.
Backman-Trummer Group operates along the whole of Finland’s west coast, and also in Hamina, close to the eastern border. In cooperation with international partners, the company seamlessly handles import and export transports.
“We have chosen this line, because it brings the best flexibility. If we had our own offices abroad, it would not necessarily be the most favourable solution for the end customer,” says Uusi-Pohjola.
